Privacy Policy
Effective date: November 3, 2026
This page explains, in plain words, what data Spilnota collects, why, and what you can do about it.
Who we are
Spilnota (spilnota.ca) is a directory for the Ukrainian community in Canada: professionals, businesses, groups, events, jobs and useful resources.
Spilnota (spilnota.ca) is operated by Dmytro Osypenko, Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Questions about this policy or your data: hello@spilnota.ca.
What we collect and why
You can browse Spilnota without an account. We collect only this:
- Your email address, when you log in. We use it to send you a one-time login link (there is no password) and to identify your account. It is not shown publicly.
- Listings you submit: what you enter in the form, such as name, description, category, city, link, languages, contact details (phone, email, address) and job, event or deal details. We keep them with your account so you can see their status in your profile.
- Anonymous usage statistics about searches and listing visits (see the next section).
Anonymous usage statistics
To understand what people look for and to improve the directory, we keep simple records:
- Searches: the text you type in the search field (2 or more characters, up to 200), the selected city and category, the interface language and the time. A search is saved when you submit it or when you stop typing for a moment.
- Listing visits: which listing was opened, whether its contact buttons or link were tapped, the interface language and the time.
These records are not linked to your account and do not contain your IP address, device details or cookies.
Search text is stored as you type it. Please do not type personal information, such as names, phone numbers, emails or addresses, into search.
We may share totals with the businesses listed (for example, how many times their listing was viewed), never individual records.
Cookies
We use only the cookies the site needs to work. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies.
- NEXT_LOCALE remembers your interface language (Ukrainian or English). Kept for 1 year.
- Login cookies (names start with sb-) are set when you request a login link and keep you logged in. They are removed when you log out and are kept for up to 400 days otherwise.
Who processes data for us
These companies process data on our behalf to run Spilnota:
- Supabase: database and login. Stores accounts, listings and usage statistics. Data region: Canada (Central).
- Vercel: hosts the website. Like any web host, it receives your IP address and browser details to deliver pages and may keep them in technical logs.
- Resend: sends the login emails from its US region. It receives your email address and the content of the email.
- Cloudflare: manages our domain name (DNS) and forwards email sent to hello@spilnota.ca.
Some of these providers may process data outside Canada, including in the United States.
How long we keep data
Nothing is deleted automatically today. This is how we handle each kind of data:
- Account: kept until you ask us to delete your account.
- Listings: approved listings stay while they are public and are removed on request. Rejected listings may be kept for a limited time for moderation and are deleted on request. Job and event listings are hidden after their end date.
- Usage statistics: kept while the service operates and reviewed periodically. Older records may be combined into totals or deleted.
- Cookies: as listed in the Cookies section.
- Logs kept by Supabase, Vercel and Resend: follow those providers' own retention settings.
Your rights
Under Canadian privacy law (PIPEDA), you can ask us to:
- Access: tell you what personal data we hold about you and give you a copy.
- Correct data that is wrong or incomplete.
- Delete your account and your listings.
- Withdraw consent at any time. Some features, such as adding listings, need an account, so they will no longer be available to you.
To make a request about your data or listings, email hello@spilnota.ca from the address you use to log in. We aim to respond within 30 days.
Anonymous usage statistics are not linked to any person, so we cannot find or delete them for you.
If you are not satisfied with our answer, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada (priv.gc.ca).
Listings you submit
New listings are checked by hand before they appear. Once approved, a listing is public: anyone can see it, including the contact details you entered. Do not add personal information you don't want to be public.
You can see your listings and their status in your profile. To change or remove a listing, or to ask us to remove a listing about you or your business, email hello@spilnota.ca.
Children
Spilnota is not intended for children under 13. If you think a child has given us personal information, email hello@spilnota.ca so we can delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will update this page and the effective date at the top.
